Horror in paradise

It's hard to believe, but a 15-year-old rape survivor has been sentenced to be whipped 100 times in public! Let's put an end to this lunacy by hitting the Maldives government where it hurts: the tourism industry.

The girl's stepfather is accused of raping her for years and murdering the baby she bore. Now the court says she must be flogged for “sex outside marriage” with a man who has not even been named! President Waheed of the Maldives is already feeling global pressure on this, and we can force him to save this girl and change the law to spare other victims this cruel fate. This is how we can end the War on Women – by standing up every time an outrage like this happens.

Tourism is the big earner for the Maldives elite, including government ministers. Let's build a million-strong petition to President Waheed this week, then threaten the islands' reputation through hard-hitting ads in travel magazines and online until he steps in to save her and abolish this outrageous law. Sign now and share this with everyone!

This is insane!! 15-yr-old rape victim is sentenced to flogging in public, while the perpetrator gets away scot-free.
Stop the Maldivian government by signing this online petition and sharing it with everyone you know!

And please don't visit the Maldives until they change these crazy laws!

Normal-size mannequins - We like this!

A Dept store Sweden introduced these normal-size mannequins. Instead of size 00, these gals are a size 12 and 16. Some are saying they "condone obesity." Pfft, the average woman is a size 14.

How to make Natural Soap

A nicely made video on how natural soap can be made at home! Takes some effort and work, and 4 to 6 weeks to "set"! This is the way Wangsa Jelita's organic soaps are made by the way - the cold process method.

International Women's Day

It's a day to appreciate WOMEN - for all our strengths & vulnerabilities, courage and foibles, brains and silliness.

A day to remember the joys and sorrows, triumphs and defeats, laughter and tears, which would not have been in our lives if not for the women in them.

It's a celebration of what God made perfect with all our imperfections!

Hug a fellow woman today and say "Thank God for YOU!"

On a separate note, We were featured in My Fat Pocket in January! Check out the link here :)

DOT visits Aarti Home & Lalita's Women Cooperative

Aarti Home & School. The concrete box at the corner was built to provide shelter for babies left at the gate, so that they won't be exposed to the sun and rain.

DOT on the road...

Training class for DOT's cute animal purses.

Most of the women and girls learning this craft are Muslims from 16 years old to 30s.

Aunty Sandhya tells us these ladies are all married. When I interviewed them, some said they are not.

Unmarried Muslim girls are not supposed to leave their houses unaccompanied, hence the cover story. And the only reason why the families of these girls allow them to come to Aarti Home for training is because they know that it's a safe place for women - a reputation Aunty Sandhya has spent the last 20 years to build within the community.

Card-making class with the children from Aarti Home.

One of the talented ones - little artist in the making.
